OUR BODRUM-MADE BOAT: ODYSSEUS

In 1968, an American marine officer came to Bodrum with his boat plans...His intention was to have a cruise boat built by a Bodrum boat master, and take it to the Carribean for tours.

But the story turned into a love story, the officer fell in love with a girl from Bodrum, they forgot about the Carribean, settled in Bodrum, and started  taking sea-lovers on tours on the deep blue waters around Bodrum.

Years later, two friends from İstanbul saw this boat, fell in love with it and bought it. After some long, hard, but pleasant renovation work, they started sharing their passion for  blue voyage with their guests.

(Odysseus, built by Erol Ağan in 1968, left its seas in 1992. It’s hard to describe the excitement of all the captains and fishermen of Bodrum when 9 years later it again met the wonderful blue of Gökova.)

One of the partners, Melkon Avetyan, is the captain. He is also an international chef, his specialty being French, Armenian and of course Aegean Cuisine.

The other partner is actually a ceramist; she paints, too. Ayla İşler Sümer. During the winter months, she works in her ceramic studio, has exhibitions. Come summer, she works on her boat , breathes the smell of the blue. She also is a proffessional cook. It can easily be said that a blue voyage on the Odysseus suddenly turns into a feast fort he taste buds as well as the spirit.
